METHODIST CONFERENCE.
PBESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, March 8. At this morning’s session of the Methodist Conference a telegram was received from the Bov W. B. Marten, stating that he was unable to visit England during the present year. The Bev J. N. Buttle presented the Foreign Missions report, showing receipts amounting to £I2BO. Satisfaction was expressed at the success attained on the mission field, and the financial support received. The conference recommended the establishment of ladies’ missionary auxiliary societies. It was reported that one minister had offered himself for the foreign mission field, also that two lady workers had already left New Zealand for the South Sea Islands. A report on the Song and Speech Mission of Sister Elinor (Miss Layton) was adopted. The results were reported to be satisfactory, and work had been begun in other districts. The balance-sheets of the following connexional trusts were adopted: Mission property, native education, the Emslie Theological Endowment, Three Kings College, Probert Trust, Theological Institution, Grey Institute, Kai-Iwi Mission, Wellington Educational Trust. It is proposed to erect new buildings at Three Kings College for the education of native boys. An appeal is being made for this object. The amount promised is £631, of which £519 is already paid. The Rev H. Bull, Connexional secretary, was appointed to receive further contributions. The Rev T. G. Brooke presented a temperance report. It was decided to make a presentment to the Minister for Railways on the necessity for carrying out the regulations relating to persona under
the influence of liquor travelling on t&O railways. The report of the “Outlook" Committee was adopted. Tho Rev T. G. Brooke was thanked for his service* as editor and was also re-appointed.
