AUSTRALIAN TIMBER.
' ! SYDNEY, March 8. An official return shows that last year timber, in the shape of piles, sleepers and girders, to the value of nearly £70,000, had been inspected for the Government of Now Zealand and other public bodies in that colony. This was exclusive of Clarence river, whence a large quantity was shipped. The New Zealand Government pays the cost of inspection—about If per cent, upon the total value.
