THE BOWLING SEASON. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Wednesday, 7 p.m. The bowling oeason opened this afternoon. There was a large attendance ol bowierg. including several visitors frem dubs in adjacent districts.' The new pavilion will be completed in a fortnight. At a meeting of the Manawatu Crioxet Association last evening, it was stated that several clubs had entered in tne senior and junior cup contests. Letters had been forwarded to s.eyeral-. outside clubs with a view to arranging matches during the season. It w'as reported that there was a probability of a team from Wellington visiting the district during the Christmas holiday season. The elec tion of officers.resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr F. Pirani. president, Mr G. M. Snelson; vice presidents. Bev Mr Harper, Messrs W. Beck. M. Cohen, A. Leary and J. P. Inne s ; secretary, Mr E. S. Peglar.; During the last ten month* fully 400 head of cattle have been destroyed in the district hy the Stock Inspector. a« they were suffering from tuberculosis and other diseases. The Highland Pine Band has decided to ask Sir Hector Macdonald .to break his journey North, at Palmerston. The Minirter of Defence states that the senior cadet’ corps cannot he named Queen Alexandra Cadets without first obtaining the consent of the Queen, and in view of the delay this will occasion it has been decided to rename the corps.
