Air C. O. Fleming, leather and grindery merchant, cf Auckland, is dead, at the ago of 64. He was a colonist of forty-tour years’ standing. Mr John Kays, J.P., who has taken part in the public life of AVellington tor same years past, has resolved to leave for Australia, in order to enter upon a business career in one of the cities there. It is not improbable that be will make his mark in public affairs wherever he goes, ay he has youth, energy, ambition and undoubted mental ability ou his side. It is tho intention of Air Kays to leave in about a week hence.

Air J. AA r . Davis, cf the Land Transfer Office, wh 0 has been transferred Christchurch, was yesterday tho recipient of two presentations, oho from the staff of tho Av'ellingtou District Land and Survey Office, and tho other from outside surveyors in the district. His colleagues presented him with a gold albert and a smoker’s companion, the latter comprising a silver cigarette case and matchbox, and the surveyors gave him a purse of sovereigns. On Dehalf of the subscribers, speeches were made by Messrs J. A*7. A. Alarchant (Commissioner of Grown Lands), Janies AicKenzio (eliicf draughtsman), aud Thomas AA’ard (spokesman for the surveyors. Tho staff of the Land Transfer Department presented him with a handsome dressing case. The proson tation was made by Air AV. Stuart, the District Land Registrar.
