CALEDONIAN SOCIETIES’ ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of clubs affiliated to the New Zealand Caledonian Societies Association was held at Searl’s Hotel yesterday afternoon. The delegates present were —Mr 11. D. I), nicLean (president) in the chair : Hon. \V. T. Jermines Auckland Caledonian Society; Mr T. Mackenzie, Kelso Caledonian Society ; Mr K. C. Bruce, Wanganui Caledonian Society; Mr v*eo. Mcßeath, Utaki Athletic Club ; Mr Ulic Shannon, Otago Athletic League, Wairarapa Caledonian Society, Empire Cit- -vt-hfetic Club; Mr 11. Smith (lion secretary), Waiapu, Wai roa, Poverty Bay, Pahiatua, Takapau and Southland Caledonian Societies. The Opunake, Wairoa, Winton and Weber Caledonian Societies, Otaki Athletic Club and Clyde ,mort s Club were affiliated to the Association. The report presented stated tnat although the second championship meeting held at Napier had to bo post-, on account of wet weather, it had been a financial success. The report and bal-ance-sheet were adented. Mr B. Smith (lion, secretary), who had founded the Association and brought it to a successful issue, tendered his resignation. Mr D. McKenzie, of Wellington, was appointed secretary of the Association. The meeting passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Smith for his services. The election of officers resulted as fol. lows; —Patron, Lord Ranfurly ; president, Mr It. D. I). McLean ; vice.presidents, Colonel Porter, Professor MdKenzie, Hon. Mr Jennings, Messrs T* Mackenzie, M.H.R., It. O. Bruce, Francis Armstrong, Geo. Hunter. John Dutliie, J. It. Blair, L. McHardy, It. Smith and the presidents of all affiliated societies. The “Now Zealand Times” was appointed the official organ of the Associationfor the North Island and the Christ, church “Press” for the South Island. Mr Ulic Shannon, of Wellington, was appointed official handicapper to the Association, with a recommendation L,at all affiliated societies and clubs should avail themselves of his services. The following was decided as the programme for future championship meetings:—l6lb hammer, 161 b shot; tossing the caber; border, catch-as-catch-can, r.nd collar and elbow wrestling ; high jump, long jump, hop step and jump, vaulting with the pole, one mile race, 880yds race, 440yJs race, 220yds race, lOOvc’s race, 120vds hurdle race, 4ioyds hurdle race, pibroch, marches, strathspeys and reels, Highland fling, sheauntrus, reel of Tulloch, sword dance, one and three mile bicycle races, one mile walking race. The place for the next championship meeting will be fixed at the next meeting of the nesociation. Mr David Campbell, of Wellington, was appointed one judge, of not more than three, of piping at championship meetings, and Mr W. P. Stewart, of Wanganui, a judge of dancing. The chairman referred to the loss the Association has sustained by the death of one of its vice-presidents. Sir John McKenzie. He moved, and it was carried, that the meeting pas s a vote of condolence and sympathy with the widow, and family of the departed statesman. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr R. Smith for past services, and the chairman.
