TECHNICAL SCHOOL DIFFICULTY. kequiem mass. CBy Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Tuesday, 0.-lU p.m. The Education Board to-day dealt with mattery connected with the Technical School. For some time past the ahaiia oi the school have been the subject 01 adverse criticism, which is ax'parently due to a misapprehension as to the true financial position of the institution. Mo - tors reached a climax at the last meet, iag.'ivhou the TocUuical School Commit, tee was commissioned hy the Board to draft a scheme for the reorganisation of the staff. This step seems to have Le >n induced by tha adverse report of Mr Isaac, organising inspector of technical instruction. This report was seat to the Board as a confidential document, and consequently the director of the schon had practically to defend himself in the dark. At to-day's meeting the director, at the request of the chairman, presented in writing his version of Mr Isaac’s nut, which he describes as of a very brief and non-investigating character. After giving details of the visit, the director says; '■X do uot consider that Air Isaac had time to examine my methods of teaching, considering ho was only in rny room nbout three minutes at the most, when I was reading out a problem in geometry. An inspector must examine a class before he can condemn a method of teaching.’ Members of Board naturally canto to the conclusion that if the facts are as staled by the director, and Air Isaac based his condemnation on such superficial investigation, very little credence can bo attached to his report. One member said that Air Hutton had fully justified himself so for as Mr Isaac’s report was concerned. To got to tho bottom of ihs matter the Board decided to ask the deportment to remove a confidential embargo, so as to enable the report of Air [snap to ho submitted to the director and the public, and also to forward a copof the director’s comments on his visit to the department. The Board udonted a scheme for cnmb’nincr District High School classes with the Technical School, which in effect mokes tho headmaster of the Boys’ High School the vector „f the District High School and nominal head of all .the local primary schools, gives the present director the status of art d’reclor, end entails the apoo’ntment of a teacher competent to teach science, mathematics and languages, at a salary of t’2so a cctii , one-half of such salary to bo pair! by the District High School and the otiior half by the Technical School. Such teacher will, teach the District Higu School pupils who have passed Standard MI. at the Technical School from on® to four o’clock if reendred; and after four o’clock ho is to be a teacher of the Technical School. It is to bo hoped that under tho new system what is undoubtedly one o[ tho best equipped schools of the" kind in the colony will cease to be badgered into d'fficuLies.
