BRISBANE, August 20In th e action for libel brought by Lieutenant-Colonel Ricardo against the Brisbane “Observer,” Captain Dodds, in his evidence, said that at Vet river Colonel Ricardo remained under cover while *a detachment of Queenslanders under Captain Reid and some New Zealanders captured a Maxim gun. When urged by a brother officer to advance, Colonel Ricardo said the New Zealanders could lose their men if they liked ; he was going to take his back to Queensland. Three members of the contingent gave evidence as to seeing Colonel Ricardo get stuck in a fence while his detachment was taking cover from the enemy’s fire.
