MEETINGS.

The Gaelic Society met at the Trocadero last evening. The following oulcers were nominated for the ensuing year : Chief, Professor McKenzie; chieftains, Messrs F. McLeod, A. McDonald and Macaskill; treasurer, Mr M, McGregor; sec retan% Mr H. McLeod; committee, Messrs F. ■ McLeod, Duncan, D. McPhee, A. Cameron, D. Duncan and the Rev Mr Thompson; auditors, Messrs F. McLeod and Duncan; bard, Mr Maoastill; pipers, Messrs D. Campbell, D. Duncan', and A. Harrison. On receiving news of the death of Sir John McKenzie the meeting closed, Mr D. Campbell playing a lament. A meeting of shareholders in the City and Suburban Co-operative Building Society will be held to-night at the Troen. dero. A ballot will take place and provision made for a new issue of shares. The annual meeting of the Mount Cook Old Boys’ Association was held at the schoolroom on Monday night. ' The president (Mr Charles J. Hardy) occupied the chair. In the course of au address, he congratulated members on the satisfactory position of the . association. The balance-sheet showed a substantial surplus. The proceedings at tho meeting were very enthusiastic. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr O. J. Hardy (re-elected!; vioe-presi. dents, Messrs F. Hempleman, C. M. Luke, junr., W. Bird, J. Wilson and A. H. Tripe; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Langdon committee. Messrs F. Midlane, C. Robertson, W. Avery, W. Naismith and H. Murrell; _ auditor, Mr C. Robertson. It was decided to hold the annual ball early in September. Messrs W. Naismith, C. M. Luke, junr., C. Robertson, F. Midlane, A. H. Tripe, F. Hempleman and H. Langdon (secretary) were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements. At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Gaelic Society news was received Of the. death of Sir John McKenzie, and the following resolution was carried:—'‘That the members of'the Gaelic Society of Wellington wish to express their profound sorrow at the sad news of the death of Sir John McKenzie, and that the hearts of all present go out in warm sympathy to Professor McKenzie at. his loss of so noble a brother.” It was unanimously agreed to telegraph the sympathy of the society to Lady McKenzie. A meeting of “the Wellington Milt Suppliers’ Union was held at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Lower Hutt, last night. There was not a large attendance. A letter was read from Mr E. .Tregear, Secretary for. Labour, accepting a copy of the amended rules, which it was decided to have printed. Mr C. Wildsmith was elected treasurer, vice Mr W. Knight, resigned.
