WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. The monthly meeting of stewards of the Wellington Racing Club was held last evening, Mr T. G. Macarthy (.president) in the chair. The balance-sheet in connection with the recent winter meeting was submitted, showing a most satisfactory result. The Masterton Racing Club submitted programmes for the spring and autumn meetings. A sub-committee was appom. ted to examine and pass the same if in compliance with the rules. It was decided to extend the existing jockeys' and trainers’ licenses until the IDth instant. The Jockeys' and Trainers’ Licenses Committee will deal with several new applications to-da--. W. Fahey, who was injured at the Steeplechase meeting, was voted £6 from the jockey's’ accident fund. A complaint from a horseowner in reference to the riding of his horse at the recent winter meeting was held over for further information and inquiry by the stewards. The Masterton Racing Club s application to place defaulting owners on the forfeit list was agreed to on the usual conditions. ~ . A programme committee was appointed to draft a programme for the spring meeting. ’ , , . , The secretary was instructed to make inquiries in the direction of obtaining information in regard to a starting clock. It having been reported by the caretaker that a horse had exercised over the steeplechase , course before the winter meeting, the trainer of same having represented that ho had permission to do so, when no such permission had been granted, the secretary was directed to write for an explanation before taking action. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. TRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND. August o At the annual general meeting of the Auckland Racing Club this afternoon, the chairman (Air MaoLachlan),_ in moving the adoption of the report, said the added money this year had been £3900 more than for tho previous twelve months. To that might he added percentage which brought another thousand, and a reduction in the acceptances another £3OO, making a total of .£SOOO. The financial position was very' satisfactory. All they owed upon the estate was £7500, and against that then" had £SOOO on deposit in the hank, and £1209 in running accounts, which, with other smaller sums, made £7324, against £7500, leaving the club in debt only £240, with property worth from £25,000 to £30,000. They might therefore congrati* late themselves upon having their fine property practically free. Their assets were liquid and their sole debt was £24G. The committee had been trying to get the club into srch a that if the totalisator wa* deno awav with they would still bo able to go on and give £IO,OOO to £12,000 a year in prices. The report was adopted. The retiring committee was re elected except that Mr G. H. Reid replaces Mr J.- Kirkwood. RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. A sharp frost last night made the tracks at Riccarton very hard, consequently very little work was done this morning until the sun was well up. Cutts worked his team as soon as possible. Djin-Djin was again given steady cantering, like work being apportioned to the other horses at Chokebore Lodge. Long Tom went steadily round the cinders, and then brushed along a few furlongs at threenarter pace. Aide-de-Camp put in a mile in Imin 52soc. Roller, Terror and Jabber were all given useful exercise. Tigress covered two circuits, the last half-mile fast; she galloped full of dash. _ Straybird and Favona did steady training. Hotu, along with Strathnairn and Magnificent, cantered, and then ran six furlongs strongly. The latter has greatly improved, and should run well at the National meeting. Tauhei cantered, and afterwards sprinted a few furlongs; the grey mare has many adherents for the Winter Cup. Sunt Ilario had his usual useful exercise. Lady Dundas, Benzoin, Dundas, Dartmoor. The Hempie,' Derringcotte, Mars and The Needle all did steady pacing work. The Yaldhurst team—MenschikofL Cruciform. San. Romo, Knight Errant. San Patricia, Skobeloff and St. Michael —and the two-year-olds on tho course, were indulged in useful oantering. Apro. mete jumped the schooling hurdles very well. Hnku and Zither also went the round of the hurdles, both going nicely. Many other horses were on the course, cither cantering or walking. Dummy and Battlenxe went' two rounds on the cinders, the last at a strong pace. The National candidate is very well, and gained many admirers for his sterling work. Battleaxe also was in splendid trim. Cannon gate performed similar tasks, acquitting himself very creditably. DEATH OF A STALLION. . AUCKLAND. August 5. Messrs Nathan suffered a serious loss yesterdav by the death of the recentlyimported stallion Fitzsimmons. Air Hal stead made a post-mortem examination, and ascertained that death was due to rupture. litzsiramons was a four-year-old son of the celebrated sire St. Simon, and was purchased in England in Alay last.
