DUNEDIN DAY BY DAY
SPECIAL TO THE “TIMES.” DUNEDIN, August 5. The Rev. Jas Ings (Baptist), of Taranaki, is advised by the doctor to take a years snell. He will therefore travel to England by wav of the Cape, and remain away a year - . The divorce case of McMaster v. McMaster was before the Judge in Chambers to-day on an application to extend the time of the Commission set up in Sydney on behalf of the husband, who is the petitioner. Mr Justice Williams granted the extension of time, and also granted the wife a further sum of £IOO in order to continue her defence. She denies a charge of adultery, and says the charge is being made as the result of a conspiracy. The parties are well known in Otago, the petitioner being Ronald McMaster, sf Tokorabi, near Oamaru, and the respondent, Fanny Ada McMaster, nee Jones, whilst the co -respondent is Isidore Kino, of Sydney. The parties were married at Dunedin it 1890, but separated by mutual consent in 1895. The misconduct charged against the wife is alleged to have taken place in a Sydney hotel, from March to July, 1900. Reports from Heathfield are to the, effect that Sir John McKenzie is sinking. Mr Carew, S.M., gave judgment today in the case of Williams v. the Roslyn Tramway Company. The plaintiff sued to recover damages caused by an electric car killing two cows. The magistrate held that plaintiff was guilty of contributory negligence, and that the car was not proved to have travelled at more than ten miles an hour, wherefore judgment was the company. His Worship’s closing remark was: “The company has secured certain rights in the road, and if cattle driving cannot be done safely during the hours that cars are travelling, cattle drivers will have to give way and make other arrangements.” Mr P. R. Sargood will probably shortly return from England.
