CRICKET
Mr Lyttelton’s denunciation of a “sbamateur” in his book on games recalls an incident which occurred some time ago. A foreigner asked an English friend what was the difference between an amateur and a professional cricketer. “Well.” explained the friend, “the amae teur plays for play, and the professional for pay.” “Oh,” rejoined th* other “that just explains to me what a little gamin meant to whom I 'put the same question, and who said:—“Oh, there’s an ell of a difference.’” The friend smiled, hut said nothing.
