MURDERED FOR A FEW COPPERS.
Two lads, aged 16 [and 16, were tried recently before the Bordeaux Assizes, charged with murdering an old woman of 94 in order to rob her. They strangled their victim, broke several of her ribs, and completed their dreadful work with a knife. They found 7d Jon her, which sum they divided. The jury found them “Guilty, but on account of their youth Ithe judge ordered that the elder prisoner bo detained in the house of correction for 20 and the younger for 10 years.
The monster cheese, of one t°n weight, which was manufactured at the Edendale Factory for the Dunedin show, was studded with coins of th e realm to a total* value of £lO, including four half* sovereigns.
