ACCIDENTS.

A FATAL EXPLOSION. PEEKS ASSOCIATION. INVERCARGILL, July 19. A shocking falality occurred during the display. A-bomb went off horizontally among the crowd and exploded in the face of Mrs Sneyd, an aged widow, who was killed. Her son had a groat wound in the thigh. His wife is seriously bruised all over, and has contused wounds caused by fragments of the bomb. .Their son is also injured. The fireworks were responsible for other injuries more or Jess serious. In all six persons are in hospital in connection with the bomb explosion.

AUCKLAND. July 12. Second-class Petty Officer Baker, of H.M.S. Pylades, was drowned to-day. Ho was securing a boat when the rope slipped dragging him over. He struck out for the boat. But the tide carried it away. Ho was drowned before assistance could be given.

Charles Press, an elderly man, was knocked down by a Government railwayengine near the Thorndon Esplanade and was severely shaken. He was taken to the Wellington Hospital for treatment, and at a late hour last night was reported to be doing fairly well.
