VICTORIA COLLEGE.
Ths’* Victoria College Council met last night. Present: Messrs J, B. Blair (in the chair), Fleming, Evans, Firth, Wilson, Guinness, M.H.8., Graham, M.H.R., and Watson, Dr Knight and Bishop Wallis. Six months’ leave of absence was granted to Dr Knight. The question of the appointment of a Professor of Pedagogy again came up. Dr Knight moved—That the matter should bo postponed for a year. He held that it was tho first duty of the council to relieve its professors of duties which, they had undertaken outside their ordinary duties- The motion was lost on the casting vote of the chairman. Mr Fleming moved, and it was carried—That the question be referred back to tho committee appointed to deal with it. with power to make inquiries as to what provision can be made for establishing a Chair of Pedagogy, and report. The sum of £337 12s lid was authorised for payment charged against No. 1 account, leaving £715 Is Gd to credit, and £ISOO on fixed deposit. The sum of £97 4s was authorised for payment
charged against No. 2 account, leaving £IOO 8s 2d to credit and £2OOO on fix*! deposit. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr O. >. Adams, of the Stawcll School of Mines. Victoria, for a present of mineral specimens. On the motion of {he Chairman, and after some debate, i( was decided to invite applications for iho position of Lecturer for Modern Languages, who shall only engage in outside work with the consent of the council, and on such term;; as it may determine.
