La wry, il.ii.it. for Burned, addressed his constituents to-night. lie warned the Labour party that they were going too far, and if they were not careful they might turn the country members against Labour legislation. Mr Lawry received a vole of thanks and confidence. The new schooner Countess of Ranfurly, built by Messrs Lane and Brown, of Whangaroa, to the order of the New Zealand Government for the Cook Island trade was launched to-day and taken in tow by the tug Admiral. The vessel should arrive here to-morrow. The Auckland Harbour Board has just had erected above the Harbour Board buildings a new time-ball to indicate to the shipping in port the co'rect time at noon.' The ball lias a drop of X7ft. Mr Madill’s large barn, stables and cowshed at Tuakau were totally destroyed by fire last night, also the contents, consisting of produce, implements, buggy, k-arness and other things. The building was insured, but uot the contents. A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and the Auckland members of Parliament, prior to tho opening of the session, took place to-day. The questions of load settlement in Auckland province, railway oxtension and the Ban Francisco man service were discussed, and also the question of placing the Manukau Harbour under the Auckland Harbour Board, as a preliminary to the construction of the Auekland-Manu-kan canal. On these matters them was ■a general agreement. An amendment of the Arbitration Act. limiting Tnc powers ol the- Citirt as to-the production or emnloyers’ books, and amendments in the Workmen’s f'ompensnlion Act were also ■*o„-csted. Ko resolutions sere proposed.
