! WELLINGTON v. PHXENIX
[The cricket season was fconcluded on Saturday with the match between Wellington and Phcenix. which was brought to an end on the Basin Reserve in the presence of a large assemblage of enthusiasts. Wellington continued batting until a score of 232 for two wickets had been put on the board, at which total the ’ innings was declared closed, making a, grand total for-Wel-litirjton of 397. Richardson ran his second! innings score up to ’ 102 not out, but Hickson was l.b.w. after adding 11 to his previous Saturday’s total of, 66 not out. Phnonis. requiring 317 tri win, and having about an hour and a’half in which to do the needful, took strike half-heartedly, and were all out at 5.30 p.m. for 134, Wellington thus winning the match by 183 runs. Ashbolt took six’ wickets for 53 runs, Hales two for 30. Midland and Wellington will now stand bracketed for the senior championship, as it will be impossible ta play any more •, games this season. No. 3 wicket at the Basin Reserve was occupied by the Porirua team and thfi Wellington Gasworks cricketing eleven. Porirua went in first , and scored; 132, of which number W. Moore made 26 (retired), E. Whitehouse 16 (retired), Tremewan 24, E. Windley 23, Pilkington 18 and Alex. Moore 12. When stumps were drawn the Gas Company players had three wickets down for lo,'Howell and Harris both not out, and batting well. Tapp, Stevens and Lingard bowled effectively for the company, the Windley brothers doing good service with the ball for Porirua.
