In August of this year the Queensland Rifle Association will,hold a- meeting on a more than usually elaborate scale, at which it is anticipated there will bean at-tendance-of xiflbmbri; from all seven colot niss. A preliminary meeting was held in Brisbane last month to discuss the draft programme then broaight np by the subcommittee appointed to prepare thfAsarae. After a short discussion, it was decided to adopt the recommendations of tho committee. The prizes to bo offered will show a substantial increase on those of last; rear. .A ‘/Grand -Federal. Match” is to be fired in connection with the gathering. Endeavours are-being made to secure for all bona fide competitors the right to free passes over tho whole of the federal railway a. The latest claimants to the proud distinctoni of being the oldest volunteer corps in tho colony aro the Royal Eangitikei Rifles. Marton. Tho Royals were formed in 1853. and. it is said .have, not had a break since then. The following city appointments have been mado to tho Federal Contingent: Civil Service Kifles.Oorporal Baker; Post and Telegraph Rifles, Colour-Sergeant Roacho; Wellington Navals.
