FOOTBALL.
WELLINGTON REFEREES’ ASSOTION. The Wellington Referees’ Association met last night, Mr Norris presiding. The secretary (Mr W. Beck) read his report on. last season’s doings of the association, which congratulated the members on the. progress of Rugby football in Wellington, and the connection of the association with the game. The report regretted that the association’s finances were not in a satisfactory state, there being a debit balance cf £4 19s lid. Mention was made of the fact that the Atffietic Park Company had agreed to admit all active referees to the Park without charge. The /report and balancio-sheiet, as placed before the members, was read and adopted on tho motion of Mr Norris. seconded by Mr D. McKenzie. Tho election of officers resulted as fallows: —Appointments Committed, Messrs W. Bock, G. Katterns and J. Robb; Examination and Classification Committee, Messrs G. Katterns, A. O. Norris and Mitchell; secretary, Mr AV Beck (re-elected); auditors, Messrs Johnston and Ware. Messrs D. '[). Ware and J. Bruce were elected members of the association. Melssrs Norris, Beck and Katterns were elected a committee to revise the rules of the association.
It was decided to appoint Monday as the meeting night of thd association. It was resolved to thank the Rugby Union for its unvarying kindness and courtesy to the association. It was also decided that no member have a free pass for the Athletic Park issued to him unless his subscription be paid for the current season. The secretary was instructed to write to the Rugby Union asking it to support the proposal of the New Zealand Rugby Union for a conference of referees to discuss the rules of football. Votes of thanks to the retiring officers and to the chairman concluded the meeting.
■Preliminary matches will be played on the A( hie tic Park this afternoon between Oriental end Athletic Clubs (senior and junior), and! at Miramar between College Old Boys and Wellington. On Saturday next the senior and junior championship matches will bo commenced.
