FIRES
Y , ; SYDNEY, March. 28. A.’ fire at Parramatta destroyed Pollock’s large store . and a', portion of the “Cumberland Mercury” office. ; The damage! is estimated at £60,000. : ‘
■ A fire occurred yesterday evening in a ten-roomed, house in Ghuzneo street, owned by Mr W. Francis. The house had been occupied by Mrs Catherine Walsh, who was moving out. Most of the furniture, on which there was an insurance of £IOO, in the Imperial office, had been removed earlier in the, day. The alarm was received at the Central Fir© Brigade Station at 8.35. It was the first alarm conveyed by the newly-installed electric system, and it was vcyry promptly answered. The flames were in a short space’ of time extinguished. ,In the meantime, however, the kitchen had been severely damaged. The remainder of the building was damaged by fire, smoke and water. It. was not ascertained last night whether tho house ivas insured.
