STATUTORY MEETINGS.

WELLINGTON AND WAIRARAPA CHARITABLE AID BOARD. At the annual meeting of the abovenamed body yesterday there were present — Messrs George Anderson (chairman), A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., George Winder, A. Sample and M. Tolhurst. The estimates for the ensuing financial year totalled £9616 13s 2d, and the apportionment of the half of that sum due from local bodies was as follows —Wellington, City Council, £2025 Is; Hutt County Council, £329 19s 4d; Hoiowhemua County Council, £278 12s; Borough of Ale)rose, £BB 10s; Petone, £79 Is; Onslow, £56 6s; Lower Hutt, £75 0> 4d; Karori, £45 11s; Walrarapa South County Council, £635 8s 8d; Pahiatua do., £248 16s 4d; Akitio do., £97 0s 8d; Eketahuna do., £96 15s 4d; Masterton do., £375 5s 4d; Castle Point do., £B9 7s 4d; Mauriceville do., £64; Borough of Masterton, £127 13s 4d; Carterton, £3O 4s 4d; Grey town, £35 Is 3d • Pahiatua, £3O 7s Id. Sum required, £4BOB 6s 7d. Mr Tolhurst raised the question as to why a vote of £SOOO was this year required Iby the Wellington Benevolent Society, while it was in possession of a cash balance.

The Secretary of the society (Mr Purvis) explained that the intention of his society was to rebuild portions of the OhiroHome. There was a sum of £ISOO in the hands of the trustees, and this sum they intended to apply to the purpose just indicated. That was the reason why a vote of £SOOO was still required to meet expenses of the ensuing year. He (the speaker) could 1 not say if the £ISOO would be sufficient to. meet tho expenses of rebuilding., Mr Sample moved, and Mr Winder seconded, a motion that the allocation of £SOOO set opposite! the Wellington Benevolent Society be adhered to. Mr Tolhurst proposed as an amendment, amf Mr Hogg seconded, that the amount be reduced by £ISOO, as an indication that the Board, disapproved of the principle of putting its moneys into buildings. The amendment was lost, and the motion carried by three votes to two. An increase of salary was granted to tbe secretary in recognition of the extra labour involved by his increased duties in consequence of the enlargement cf tbe contributing district. WELLINGTON HOSPITAL BOARD The Wellington Hospital Board met yesterday morning. Present —Messrs W. A. Evans (chairman), Walker, Sample, Murdoch and Townsend. - . The estimates submitted for 19011902 showed that the sum required was £12,620 16s 4d, of which sum one-half was’ due from the Government and the remainder from the local bodies. Tbe following allocations of liability were agreed to, with a proviso that tne requisitions be not enforced unless they be strictly in order, Messrs Evans ano Townsend being appointed to inquire into the subject and see that everything was in accordance with section.6 of the Hospital and Charitable Aid! Board : Wellington City Council, £4290 12s; Hutt County Council, £<?99 2s 4d: Horcwhenua County Council, £o9o 5s 8d; Borough of Melrose, £lB7 10s 4d: Petone, £167 10s 4d; Onslow, £ll9 6s 4d; Lower Hutt, £159 10s 10d;Hvaron, £96 10s 4d. Sum required, £6310.8s 2d. A donation of one guinea was made to Mr Taylor for his, services during Ah© past year in looking after the meeting room. At the annual statutory meeting of the Melrose Borough Council last night the burgess roll was duly revised 1 ana confirmed.
