The Customs returns for yesterday amounted to £2592 Is. j Messrs W. Weddol and Co.’s report on colonial dairy produce to February? 15th, states that the demand for Australian and New Zealand butter was good, but the supply of 50,000 boxes was rather hard to absorb, consequent, ly values fell from Is to 2s for the week. The tendency would bei the same, according to supplies, the following week. The weakness of the butter market was difficult to understand, tbe imports for January being 30,000 cwt less than for the preceding January. New Zealand cheese, at the date of the report, was in bettor demand, but prices showed no improvement. CHRISTCHURCH, March 27. At the Addington market to-day the fat cattle numbered 172, a fair proportion being good steers. There was a slightly improved market. Best steers brought £8 to £10; others, £5 17s Gd to £7 10s; heifers, £5 5s to £8 ss; cows, £4 l()s to £7 ss.

Fat sheep—3ooo, including some good wethers, were yarded. Freezing buyers held off, and the bulk of the yarding fell to butchers. The market for good ewes opened well, but after the local trade had been supplied the bottom fell out of the market, and many good lots were passed, while inferior were almost unsaleable. Extra prime wethers brought 20s to 2Ls Id; ireezers, 17s to 19s; lighter, down to 16s; best ewes, 15s to 18s; secondary, 12s to 14s; inferior, down to 9s; merino wethers, 11s lid to 12s lOd ; ewes, 8s 6d to 11s lOd. Fat lambs—About 3000, mostly medium quality. Although only two export buyers were operating there was brisk sale, more than upholding late rates. Freezers sold at 14s 6d to 10s, lighter down to 13s.

Store sheep.—Over 12,000 came re hand, mostly breeding ewes and lambs. A few local wethers sold at 14s lOd to 15s 8d ; Chatham Islanders. 13s to 14s lid. Good young ewes were in demand at 14s to 17s 9d, and up to 21s for an cxtra ; order'. Forward lambs sold well at 12s Id to 13s 2d, others ait 8s Id to 10s 6d.

Pigs.—About 450, including a choice line of baconers, which, with good stores, met an improved demand. Baconers, 35s and 455, and up. to 53s for extra prime, equal to 3i|d and 4d peril); pork, ors 22s and 34s 6d; stores, 11s to 225; suckers and weavers, 4s Cd to 10s Cd.
