RIVAL POLITICAL .GATHERING. SYDNEY, March 27. Last night the Freetraders held a. great gathering in the Town Hall, Air 6. H. Raid presiding. The Protectionists held an immense open-air gathering. Both meetings were marked by much enthusiasm. Mr Reid and other loaders' made strong appeals in favour of Freetrade, while Messrs Barton and R. E. O’Gonrior delivered stirring 'speeches on the Protectionist side,, and confidently predicted the victory of the Bartonians.

The Democratic League also held a demonstration.
