I'IIESS ASSOCIATION. ■CHRISTCHURCH, March 20. At the annual meeting oi the Canterbury Society of Arts to-day it was shown that there were 114 subscribers and fifty-three working members. There waa a. sum of £75 in hand, and during the year four £3o,debentures bad been paid olf. If next exhibition is a success, tho society will be free of debt. Tho Hon E. C. The Auckland Harbour Braid’s returns for 1900- contain many items 'of interest a.s showing the progress rondo by Auckland during the time of the Board’s existence. The statement of net revenue shows- that in tho first year of the Board’s constitution, namely, 1872, the total revenue amounted to £12.498 2s lid, whilst in 1000 the total was £50,711 6s 4d. cr, with interest added, £51,185 los lid. The revenue for 1900 was the largest collected in the history of tho Board, and exceeded that of 1899 by £4076 18s 7d, exclusive of interest. The comparative statement of expenditure for 1890 and. 1900 shows that there was an increase in this direction during 1000 of £10,864 Is 7d. - ,

Tlio Hospital and Charitable Aid Board resolved to-day to give Mr Moss (manager of the Costlcy Home) and his wife three months’ notice of dismissal. This is the result of. certain charges made, against Air and Airs -Moss which were investigated in private.. They were asked to resign, and claimed apublic inquiry, but the Board refused this, holding that there was no course open to it but to give notice of dismissal! NELSON, Ala roll, 26. The Education Board, at its meeting to-day, decided to point out to the Ministor that Nelson and tho West Coast wore not represented on the Royal Commission on teachers’ salaries, and to ask that a, representative of the Nelson educational District be appointed. The Government has in the main agreed with tho Board’s proposals for the allocation of the special grant for salaries. ,
