WOMEN’S TEMPERANCE UNION

SIXTEENTH CONVENTION. CLOSE OF PROCEEDINGS. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union resumed- its sittings under the presidency of Mrs Sohnackenburg yesterday morning. Twenty-seven, delegates were present. Tlie first report read was that on “ Social Purity,” by Mrs Webb. The report gave rise to much discussion as to how the immorality now said to bo rife among young people could best bo coped with. The election of officers, the last business of the convention, then took place. Mrs Schnackenburg declined re-nomi. nation for the presidential office. Her resignation was received with deep regret.

Mrs Atkinson and iurs Cocker were appointed delegates to the Women’s Council; Mrs Plimmer and Mrs Wright to the Palmerston North Convention; Mrs Atkinson to the New Zealand Alii ance Executive. The convention then adjourned l , after accepting the invitation of Mrs' Denton to a garden party. The invitation of tho Palmerston North Union 1 to hold the annual convention there' next year was accepted.
