HAWKE’S BAY v. WELLINGTON,

The Selection Committee of the . Wellington Cricket Association met on Saturday afternoon, and selected Lie 'following players to represent Wellington in the match with Hawke’s Bay. to be .played at Napier on the 6th and Bth April;—F. Stevenson and Duncan notified the committee that if selected they would be unable to make ihe trip. THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP The senior championship matches were resumed on Saturday at the Basin Reserve, the Midland team playing the (lid Boys, ami Wellington meeting Phoenix. There was a largo attendance of spectators. The weather was fair for cricket, with a fresh northerly wind. MIDLAND v. OLD BOYS. The'Midland team compiled 389 against' the Old Boys, The fwtwa <>f tu?. innings was the batting of Tucker, who scored J,85 before ha was stumped by .BladUock towards the end of tho day’s play. Tucker gave an excellent exhibition of sound onokot. although he allowed one or two chances. His score included seven . ( fours, twelve threes, and thirteen twos. A. Williams and Hickson were responsible for 40 each. The Old Boys had barely entered upon thoir first innings when stumps were drawn. The scored were:- .

WELLINGTON v. PHOENIX. The first innings of the Wellington team closed for 163. Richardson played serviceable cricket for his 32, and Cr«m- / hie and C. Gore wore also in good form. Johnsonville and United had the Athletic Park to themselves on Saturday. The. United compiled 76 in the first innings, of which number Pockuall scored 26, and Mansill 14. Luxford (six for and J. Moore (four for 27) bowled well 'for Jonnsonville, who, batting one man short, made 88, the chief contributors being Picken Carroll 16, W. Moore 12, and Pilkington 11. A. Day and Turner' howled with most success fir United. .For the Hutt Valley Cricket Association’s senior championship on Saturday Petone met Waiwetu. The former made--25 in the first innings (Wynyard 10). and in thd second essay compiled 64 for four wickets (Knight 21, Ryder 10). Waiwetu responded witn 86, (Jounnax 17, W. Pringle, A. Pringle and J. McMennamin 15 each). For Petone Maddox bowled most successfully, while Brown and A. Pringle were the host for Waiwetu. VWtaS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, March 24.
