IRONWORKERS’ PICNIC
The employees in the ■ foundries of Messrs Seager, Crabtree- and Sons, Ro- * bertson. Gaby and Smith Bros, held a picnic at the Kailway liecreation Grounds, ( . Upper Hutt, on Saturday. The party 4 numbered, about 600 people, and went out g by special train from To Aro at 9.30 a.m. , The weather was favourable, and an enjoy- ’ . able time was spent.' 'There was a libe- ■ ral distribution of toys for the children, 1 and the visitors were supplied with tea, 1 milk and sugar free of charge. At a t luncheon given by the committee to visi- 1 tors and employers, Mr D. Robertson, on ( behalf of the employers, expressed his j pleasure at the hospitable treatment he t and his brother employers had received. ; He hoped the picnic would become an an- . nual affair. Responding ,on behalf of J the committee, Mr Jeffries thanked the 1 master iron founders for their generosity in subscribing liberally, and thereby as- ‘3 Bisting to make the picnic a success. : The ] Committee of Management was composed of Messrs W. Hart, S. Murray, H. Porter, Whitear, D; Haining, French, S. Williams. J. Thompson, W. Lawson and J; Warmington. Mr H. Jeffreys acted ; as judge and hon secretary, Mr T. Hollis as starter, and Mr W. Thompson ashan-, 1 dicapper. Mr S. Williams carried out ; the catering arrangements in a manner • which gave great satisfaction. The programme of sports resulted as follows: Three-Legged Race, 75yds; first prize, W. F. Shortt’s trophy.—R. and A. McGuire, 1. Ironworkers’ Three-Legged ■Race; first-prize.- Mr Winder’s trophy — Milner and Wills, 1. Single Ladies’ Race, 7Syds; first prize, Mr Danks’s trophy—Miss M. Wakelih. .
