CUBA STREET. ft'mt.a'v mm/foti a np THE DUCAL RECEPTION. Tj.ti> question of organising a fitting reception for the Royal visitors, who will be amongst us in about leu weeks' time, is a ticsiish matter. Everyone is anxious that the reception shall be worthy of the occasion, yet no one is prepared to J nay the piper. The Christchurch people want the costs paid out of the Consolidated Fund and the Canterbury people have solved the problem. It is monstrous to expect that the ratepayers should bear the whole cost of entertaining Royalty, and to expect voluntary subscriptions, after the copious bleeding of the past two months, is nonsence. The money of the ratepayers will be needed for covering the cost of tho proposed address and for cleaning and sweetening the .streets and general purposes. In the end the Government will have to face the question of costs and it is merely wasting time in dallying with the matter. The Royal pair must be received right royally, and wo are certain there will be nothing wanting in this respect. and we can speak with authority for we know how warmly and cordially Crease’s A 1 -Tam has been received in Wellington. It was taken up by tho people at once, for it struck the popular taste. Crease’s A 1 Jam is pure, wholesome and delicious. 91G
