The agitation against toll gates in Taranaki county has reached an acute •stage. Information has been received that at Puniho the gatekeeper was locked in his house while several persons carried off tho gate, which has not yet ; been found. It is reported that another gate at Heimama was similarly treated. This extreme step has been taken in view of tho impending sale of ’ the right to collect tolls for the year ’commencing in April.
