NEW VESSELS LAUNCHED
A AIAMMOTH WARSHIP. (Received Alarch 22, 10.46 p.m.) LONDON, Alarch 22. The battleship Duncan, thd first of the new "Duncan” class,which was laid down at the Thames Ironworks in July, 1899, has been launched. ' , [The Duncan is 405 ft long, with a beam of 751 ft and ’’a displacement of 14,000 tons. Her armament will consist of four 12in breechloading wire guns, plated with llin steel; twelve 6m quickfiring guns; twelve 12-pounder quick-fir. ing guns; six 3-pounders and four submerged torpedo tubes. She will be one of the most effective battleships afloat.] The Antarctic ship Discovery has also been launched. . „ , • •, [The Discovery was specially designed for the British National Antarctic Expedition, and was built.'at Dundee. The expedition is to start in August, and wul be commanded, by Commander R. F. Scott, 8.N.1
