THE BUBONIC PLAGUE
PERTH, March 21. , Another' case of plague is reported, one Ernest Bird'being: attacked. The Minister of. Health has directed the following precautions to be taken with-respect to vessels from the ports of Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Fremantle, and of Capo .Colony,, .either direct or by way porta : —l. The hawsers qxa either to be tarred or covered with tarred parcelling close to the -mooring pipes, and they are to bo fitted with discs or some other effectual preventive against the landing of rats; the tar is to be kept moist either -by: repeated applications or by aii admixture''of Oil. 2. From dark to daylight tno vessel is to bp kept not less than four feet from the wharves. 3. The ship’s side is either to be illuminated at night with the electric light or lanterns are te be placed on each mooring post in'such a manner as will illuminate the. hawsers. 4.- All gangway and gangway nets, are at night to be taken in-ooard, and where possible all fenders are to be removed, so that- no connection is to exist, except by the haWsers, between the ship and the wharf-: 5. A nightwatohman, provided by the vessel, is to be stationed on the wharf to assist in preventing the landing of rats.
