ALTERATION PROMISED. • LONDON. March 20. The demand-of the Irish members and others for the modification of the portion of; the oath taken by the sovereign at his accession' in which he disavows belief in the\ Roman Catholic doctrine of tfansubstantiation, lias been brought up in the House of Lords by Lord Harris, .who proposed to move a motion on the subject. , _ The Prime Minister (Lord Salisbury) expressed regret at the existence of statutory language of such violence in the form of the oath,’ and has offered to introduce in Parliament a resolution for its alteration, provided that the Protestant succession is not impaired, j; Lbrd Harris expressed himself satisfied with this assurance, and withdrew his intended motion.
