TO BE PROCEEDED WITH AT ONCE. :In accordance'with its progressive railway policy, tho Government has decided to have the Stratford-Wangamomona railway 1 taken in hand , at once, on the lines laid down in plans prepared by Mr M. Holmes, Engmeer-in-Ohief of the Public. Works Department, Mr Holmes’s suggestion, that the line should be of the standard gauge of Now Zealand railways, bias also been adopted, but in the first case only light sleepers and light rails will be laid down. : . • Should the traffic show any marked increase “within a few years of the completion of the line, however, .the permanent way. will be strengthened to carry the heaviest rolling-stock. The line will, of course, form a connecting link vHth the proposed North Island Main Trunk line on the one side and the West Coast railway oil the other.
