The weather was fine, and the attendance largo. Some good'racing was witnessed, hue there were no very large dividends, £0 4s on Jadoo being the largest. Battleaxe was slightly in advance cf the field as the (lag fell, and passing ihe stand the first time tho sou of Hotchkiss still led the way with Ideal. Skobcloff, Palaver, and Materoa in that order. Rounding tho bend Skobelolf improved his position, running alongside ■ Battleaxe, the rest of the field well up. Along the back stretch tho field was well to-p-ether, but rounding the turn lor home ideal. Skoboloff, and Battlcaxo all made ap, effort, whilst Palaver and Materoa were also going strongly. Entering the straight, it was any horse’s race. Idea 1 and Skobelolf coming, very fast, w’th Battlcaxe and Palaver in close pursuit. A slashing race, ensued np the straight. Skobcloff and Ideal running together, bat tho latter drawing out in the last few strides, got homo by a long nock., Battleaxe was a good third. Time, 2min 40sec. Dividend, £2 19s. Tho annual meeting of tho Horowhemua Racing Club will be hold to-day at Levin. A more enjoyable place for a race meeting it would be difficult to find. Tho course overlooks the beautiful Horowhem.ua Lake. Conveyances meet tho train at-Levin to convey visitors to and from the course in time to catch the return train. In another column the secretary of the club notifies that bookmakers, their agents or clerks, disqualified persons, and all other undesirable persons, will be excluded from the club’s private property by a well-known racecourse detective, who has been engaged.
