DAMAGE BY FIRE
LONDON, March 15. The damage caused by the, fire aboard tho P. ami 0. steamer Syria at Gin.;, gov.-, which was at first estimated at £BOOO, is new stated to amount to ,£30,000. HOBART. March 16. A fire occurred in Iho linen locker on the mail steamer Austral while on the trip from Sydney. It is supposed to have bean caused by a. spark from tho funnel. Nearly the whole of tho ship’s linen, amounting to 12,000 pieces, was destroyed. Ihe damage is estimated at IAQO.
