By an accident on the Victoria Nyanssa, the Rev. Martin J. Hall, an estimable missionary, once well known at St. John’s College, Cambridge, lost his life recently. Accompanied by two Baganda boys and two Basese boatmen, he left Nassa to cross the lake to Uganda in a canvas sailing boat which was built in sections. After tlYrce or fonr day’s journey a fearful storm came on, with terrible waves, , and the first throe sections of the boat filled with water. The men baled out, with buckets and saucepans, but to no avail, and finally, whilst in tho act of throwing his tent and,table overboard, Mr Hall capsized the boat. For some time the five occupants ,vsat on./the upturned, keel, but very soon the I two boys sank, and tho deceased minister, who was a strong swimmer, also sank whilst in the attempt to undress. So was the force of the wind that the. body was carried 100 yard?; or so from the scene of the disaster.
