POULTRY SOCIETY

A meeting of the Wellington Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society was held on Thursday evening at the Trocadero. Mr G. Frost (vice-president) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members.

The secretary, in his report of the recent poultry conference held at New Plymouth, said he regretted that only five out of nine societies in the North Island! were represented. He felt sure that had. the others been represented, the proposal for forming a New Z-aland Association would have been approved. Rule 12, he continued, which practically disqualifies exhibitors who exhibit at non-affiliated shows, -was retained in the by-laws by the conference, and until such rule was removed, he would not recommend the society to affiliate to the North Island! Association. Such a rule would not be tolerated in any English •lub, and should not be tolerated here.

A long discussion ensued. A motion " That this society affiliate with the North Island, Association,” was defeated. It was resolved, on the motion of the secretary, “ That the society take no further action in the matter, pending the result of the executive of the North Island A ,Delation’s deliberations with the South Island on behalf of Nelson, Marlborough and the West Coast.” A model of trestles by Mr T.JDoig was laid before the meeting. In moving a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Doig for the model, the secretary stated that it was simplicity itself; and would mean, that, instead of the society requiring a day to put up its benches, the whole could be set up in an hour or two. The vote was carried by acclamation. - The chairman, Mr Remington, and tue secretary were appointed a committee to arrange for the necessary timber for the benching. Final consideration of the schedule was next dealt with. , In the canary tick classes an important proviso was added, viz., “That a bird! having a tick, visible or otherwise, must bo shown in the tick classes ; and should it be necessary for the judge to handle such exhibit, ho will do so at the sole risk of the exhibitor.” A motion to disallow two wins for the society’s £lO 10s trophy, of an exhibitor who had previously been disqualified, was carried.

The “ Send-it-to Shortt’s ” champion canary cup, value £ls 15s, was allocated to the Norwich Clears, ticks and variegated, colour or non-colour fed ; the trophy to be won three times before becoming the absolute property of any cue winner, and to be awarded to the exhibitor securing moat points in the above classesr points to count 3,2 and 1, and only to count in classes where thero are more than one exhibitor.
