ROWING.
The final heat of the Junior Pairs of the Star Boating Club was rowed over the southerly course last evening, when N. James (bow), and C. E. Dowland (stroke), defeated T. Hamer (bow), and F. D. Johnson (stroke) by one and three-quarter lengths. Mr T. H. Bethune (captain of the club) was judge, and Mr H. L. Wiggins (vice-captain) started the race. The heats of the Senior Pairs will be continued this evening. The final heat of the Kempthorne Pours in connection with the Wellington Rowing Club was decided on Wednesday evening, also a heat of the Senior Pairs and two of the Junior Pairs. In the Kempthorne Fours, Parsonage (bow), Maher (2), W. Read (3), W. J. Spencer (stroke) defeated Stewart (bow), M. Campbell (2), D. Mowat 13) and A. Jones (stroke) by a length. The - Senior Pairs race was between C. Leggett (bow), W. Shilling (stroke) and J. Burch (bow), A. McAlpine (stroke). The former won by a couple of feet. In the Junior Pairs heats D. Stewart (bow) and Evans (stroke) beat Dixon (bow) and J. Anderson (stroke) by a length; and Bethune (bow) and Easton (stroke) defeated Guise (bow) and Hull (stroke).
