RAM FAIR
FBEBS ASSOCIATION. OBRISTOHURCH, March 14. The annual ram and ewe fair, under the auspices of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, began to-day. The entries, which were large, included consignments from Auckland, and leading Otago and Southland breeders. In English; Loicesters. the general run of prices for shearling rams was from 5 to 5f guinea®, several pens going to 6J guineas, smaller lots to 8 guineas, and single sheep at 17 guineas, 13 guineas and 9 guineas. Rams, in scarcely first-rate condition, sold at 3f to 4f guineas, and ram lambs at 2 to 2} guineas. For Lincolns there was practically no demand, and the majority were withdrawn. A few which were sold fetching to 3|- guineas for pens of shearlings, and up to 5 guineas for single sheep. Border Leicester® met moderate demand, about half being sold, at 2 to 4 guineas. There was only cine pen of Romney shearling rams, and it was passed at 4j guineas. Shropshire rams were not so keenly competed for as had been anticipated, useful lines of shearlings being sold at from 2 to 4 guineas, and a few lots up to 7-f guineas,; inferior lots sold as low as half a guinea.
