Dr Motley moved a. resolution, expressing pleasure at hearing of the formation of a Methodist Local Preachers’ Association of New Zealand, and recommending that a collection in aid of the association be taken in connection with its annual celebration. " He spoke in terms of praise of the work done for the Church by local preachers. The resolution was carried unanimously. Rev F. W. Isitt me.ved that, in order to prevent the waste of time, to which many lay members of the Conference are subject, a committee be appointed, to consider whether ministers should meet throe days prior to the opening of Conference, and so far despatch the business of pastoral session, in committee of the whole, that the greater part of that business could be formally ratified without further discussion in pastoral session. This was agreed to,' and it was decided that tha committee consist of the president and chairmen of districts, with the secretary of the Conference. The Rev J. J. Lewis moved the following resolution, which he supported iu an eloquent speech : —’"The Churches of New Zealand, having by a remarkable consensus of opinion supported the movement in favour of daily Bible reading with the Lord’s Prayer and conscience clause in tha Government schools, the Conference believes the time has come to afford the general public such an _ opportunity of giving expression to their wish on the subject as shall ensure the Legislature giving effect to what is sought. The members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church are therefore recommended to support the introduction into Parliament of a Bill to decide by the referendum whe.ther it is the will of the people of this colony to give the AA r ord of God its right place in the Government day I schools.’’ The resolution was carried unanimously, Tha usual votes of thanks to the president, secretary and other officials, to tho press, and to those families who had extended hospitality to the visitors, were massed. , , , This concluded the general business of i the Conference.
