The members of the Petone Brass Band left on Saturday morning fun Wanganui, where the baud contest coinmencss on Tuesday'. The band has entered for the principal event, besides the other minor ones, rind, as the members have been practising assiduously for a. considerable time, it is thought here that Petone’s representatives will render a particularly good account of themselves.
Mr E. Jarman, chief oierk in the stores department of the Railway Workshops, has been transferred to Newmarket, Auckland. Mr Fleming, of the latter town, will take his place. The report of the Petone Association Football Club, to be presented at its annual meeting on Wednesday evening, shows that a distinct advance in the position of the club has been made (luring last season. The record of the first; elevefi is:—Matches played. 12; won, 2; drawn, 3; lost, 7. Goals scored against, 24; for. 8. Six of the players; were selected to play in representative trial matches, Me.ssrs C. Bcrntseu and H. Renai being chosen in the Wellington team which journeyed to Auckland. The second teams showed an improvement on their play, the “A” team winning 8, drawing 1, and losing 5 of the 14 matches played.
At Friday’s meeting of the Works Committee of the Potone Borough Council the treasurer reported the receipts for the month to be £3OB 4s 7d (rates £93 6s 2d, wharfage £4l 16s 3d, gas accounts £4B 16s 3d), while the expenditure totalled £304 8s 4d. Tho Engineer reported that applications for gas services were still coming in steadily, and that it had been found necessary to put on additional rstorts. , He asked the Council to give consideration to tho matter of importing stoves ready for next summer. This request was referred to the Lighting Committee. In the Hutt Valley "Cricket Association’s senior contest, St.; Augustine’s v. Kaiwarra.,' the church -club, going in first, scored 26 (Berntsen 7), Kaiwarra replying with 43 (Williams 14, Hogg 10). In their second essay St. Augustines scored .46 for tho loss of eight wickets, Mason with 16 and Berntseu w ith 12 being most successful. For Kaiwarra Golding and Hogg, and for St. Augustine’s Osborne-Lilley were the host trundlers.
