THE BUBONIC PLAGUE

A TROUBLESOME PATIENT. (Received .March 7, '11.47 p.m.) ' PERTH. March 7. A Chinese plague patient gave a lot of trouble. ’ He refused to be removed from his premises, which had been quarantined. When subsequently secured, he obtained possession of a tomahawk and broke a window!, through which he escaped. He was subsequently recaptured. A SUSPECTED CASE. MELBOURNE, March*7. Consternation has been caused by a report that a woman has been discovered at Pitzroy suffering, from plague. The doctors state that the ■ case ' is one of .blood poisoning, but it is being carefully watched. , precautions in Wellington. The-Mayor of Wellington was asked by Councillor'lzard last night whether,in view of the second plague scare, any precautions were to be taken by the Wellington City authorities., Mr Aitken replied that no steps had been taken yet. Councillor Izard urged that something should he done at once. It would not be necessary to have many inspectors, hut one or two might start upon an inspecting tour of some of ; the low-lying parts of the city. “1 commend the mattcr'to your Worship’s consideration,’! added Councillor Izard. “ Thank you,” observed his Worship. Then some other Councillor rose to ask a question or two about street-widening, or something of the kind. .
