Mr Justice Cooper has appointed Mr R. Vincent ns his secretary. The Government has re-appointed Messrs J. R. Blair and S’, de C. Malet as directors of the Bank, of New Zealand. ,
The appointment of Mr T. E. Donne as Under-Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce and- Superintendent of Government Tourist and Health Resorts is gazetted. Surgeon-Captain Godfray, who returned from* South Africa last week, was entertained at a social gathering at Waipukurau on Wednesdy night. There was a very large attendance. Among the passengers from Sydney by the Westralia was Mr Alex. Brown, M.L.C., ofvSydney* who intends making: a tour of the South Island, including a visit to the Otako Lake district.
The ministers are gazetted under the Marriage Act: —Revs S. Bar-; nett and F. Vv. Boys (Wesleyan Methodist! ; Revs S. Buchanan and T. Coatsworth (Primitive Methodist) ; and the j-vev J. Wilkins (Congregational Independent). Mr J. Rumgay, of the locomotive superintendents’ staff of the New Zealand Railways, was yesterday presented .by-, the staff, on the occasion of his ap-: preaching marriage, with a handsome cake basket and biscuit barrel. Mr J. P. Kelly, chief clerk, made the presentation.
Three medical men have pronounced the complaint Mr A. Morrison, M.H.R. for Oaversham, . is. suffering from-, to he cancer. Three others fail to find all the results they would expect in such a case, and having doubts as to its being cancer, recommend a course of medicine lasting four or five weeks. -
Mr H. E. Price, of the Brooklyn School, who is taking the position of third master at Clyde quay, was yesterday presented by Mr J. B. Hopkirk, the headmaster, on ’behalf of the teachers and children at Brooklyn, with a volume of Shakespeare’s works and other books. The ladies provided afternoon tea, and a very pleasant gathering was held.. The death is announced this morning of Mrs Poynter, wife of Mr G. H. Poynter, of Tinakori road. Deceased, who was 60 years of age, was very well-known and widely respected. Mrs Poynter, with her husband, arrived in Wellington fif-om England in 1873, and settled in that year in this city. The deceased leaves a family of three sous and a daughter, all residents of Wellington. The funeral takes place this morning at 10 o’clock.
