The Kiripaka, wliich sailed yesterday for Waitara, took sixty tons of salt and a quantity of general cargo for the Taranaki port. The little ketch Oban, which arrived in port early yesterday morning from Picton, brought a load of scrap and pig iron for Mr Cable. The iron is from the dismantled freezing hulk Edwin Pox, The ketch will return to-the Sounds. A telegram from Nelson states that the steamer Gertie, which was on her way to Westport, put in there for repairs at half-past 10 o’clock last night. No particulars are as yet to- hand. The Westralia arrived in port from Sydney yesterday at 3 p.m., but owing to quarantine restrictions, she will not he berthed till this evening. Owing to the strict nature of the Health Department’s regulations, no passenger list was procurable last night. It is not probable that the vessel will be able to continue ber voyage to-day. but that she will sail for Lyttelton to-morrow. The exact quantity of butter brought down by the Eotoiti from New Plymouth for the Banffshire yesterday was 11,671 boxes. A Melbourne shipment of 500 boxes was also brought down, besides 60 tons of general cargo. The actual time taken' to fumigate the Kumara was only eight hours, at least the fumigating operations had only been conducted for eight hours when the medical officer made his second! examination and passed the vessel. Should the Westralia be considered sufficiently fumigated in eight hours she should bo berthed between four and five o’clock this afternoon. As in the case of the Kumara, a Customs official went off last evening with the fumigating material, but was not to commence his

work till daylight this morning. The S.S. and A. Company’s Aotea ar rived in port yesterday raorrjing from Gisborne. The Aotea reached the colony or Christmas day, calling first at Port Chalmers, at which port and Lyttelton all hei Home cargo was discharged. Timaru—l4 casks of pelts, 16 casks of tallow, 375 bales of wool, 18,723 carcases of meat. Picton—so casks oftallow, 7000 carcases of meat, 46 bales of skins, few cases of kidneys. Napier—lll3 bales of wool, 100 casks of tallow. 45 casks ol pelts, 50 cases of kidneys, 9472 carcases of mutton, 424 quarters of beef. Gisborne—--9000 carcases of meat, 49 casks of tallow, 21 casks of pelts, 40 cases of honey. The Aotea will complete her Home loading here with about 3000 carcases of mutton, 20,000 boxes of butter, and about 4000 cases of cheese, sailing for London on the 14th inst. Pair weather has been experienced by the Aotea since reaching the colony up to making the straits on Tuesday evening; then owing to the strong wind blowing when the Heads were reached it was decided to lay off, and the vessel steamed into the harbour yesterday morning. THE KUMAEA. The S.S. and A. Company’s Kumara, which arrived in port on Tuesday afternoon from London via Capetown and Hobart, but which was detained till yesterday afternoon in the stream for the purposes of fumigation in view of a possible introduction of the plague from Capetown, was betrthed at the. Queen’s Wharf at five o’clock last evening The vessel left London on January 18th, Heavy weather was encountered in the Channel, but fair weather was experienced to Capetown, which was reached on February 9th. Passengers were disembarked and mails were taken on hoard, A fine-weather passage of 18 days 5 hours was made to Hobart. Icebergs were sighted in 45deg to 29deg south and 51deg to 39deg east, the weather being fine and clear at tbe time, Hobart was left behind at noon on February Ist and fine weather, but a strong, swell was met irith till arrival. Associated with Captain Scotland, is Mr Morton (chief officer). Mr Arnold (second), Mr Butterfield (third), Mr Symons (fourth, late of tbe Margaret Salbraith), Hr Hoskings, of Masterton, Mr Sreenhill (chief engineer), Mr Fergusson ’second), Mr Dunlop (third), and Mr Nevison (fourth).
