Oar Carterton correspondent writes:— Lieutenant P. Rutherford, of this town, who joined the Fifth Contingent at Marendellas, and was afterwards invalided, haa accepted a captain’s commission in tbo Seventh Contingent Captain Rutherford lias two brothers, Norman and Cecil—both Carterton lads—serving in South African colonial regiments.—Mr (1. S. W. McDermid. who has been appointed headmaster of tho local school, is captain of tho Fkealuuui. Mounted Rifles, and is well known ThVorighbut tho whole of tho Wairarapa. Before going to the Ekcfehnna school, Mr 'McDermid was headmaster at Kaiwaiwni, near Foatherston. The annual inspection parade of. (bo Wellington Naval Artillery and (he Herelaungn Mounted Rifles .will be liold this evening.
