Mr McKinley has been sworn in for Ms second term of office as President of the United States.
It is the intention of the Government to take a referendum, on the question of New Zealand federating with Australia. Mr John Mathieson, the Victorian Railway Commissioner, has been appointed general manager of the Midland Railway in England.
The Parliamentary representatives for Wellington City are opposed to the proposal to despatch a thousand troops to the opening of the Federal Parliament xn Melbourne;
