The Monowai arrived from Melbourne and the South on Saturday morning with a large number of passengers and a anantity of general cargo, including a large line of grain. She had a fine trip rip the const, light variable winds and smooth seas being experienced. The Monowai left for Svdney at 4 p.m. Messrs Denny Brothers, of Dumbarton, the designers and builders of the Bimutaka, have also in their yards another new steamer for the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Ruapehu, and her keel was laid dowu alongside the Rimutaka when the latter vessel was well on towards comnletion. The new Ruapehu is a. little longer and a little finer run than the Rimutaka, and her builders expect to get another knot out of her. The extra speed is to be gained at the expense of her carrying capacity, for although of the same size as the Rimutaka, she will carry over two hundred tons less cargo.' The‘Ruapehu is expected to sail for the colony about the middle of the rear.
