The other day a lady, after making a purchase at the Army and Navj Stores, absent-mindedly walked out of the department with another custoraei s umbrella. The customer burned after her, and the lady, with apologies, returned the umbrella . This reminded her that she wanted nevr umbrellas for herself and her daughter. After buying them she entered an omnibus, and on sitting down found herself opposite the owner of the first umbrella. The latter stared at the two new umbrellas, and then, with the iciest of smiles, leaned forward and said, “I see you’ve had a successful morning.*’—“Evening ISews.’ ■ The spectacle of a part of the English Press carrying on a campaign against Mr Chamberlain while the war in South Amca is still in progress is not exactly patriotic.—“ll Pungolo Parlamensar*," Rome.
