NELSON, February 28., At a meeting of the Council' cf Gover- ■ uors of Nelson College, it was resolved ' to communicate with the University Senate, protesting against any curtailment of facilities for degree ’examinations. The object of the conference was the formation of a northern association, including Marlborough. Nelson and the west coast of the South Island. It was resolved, after much discussion, several motions being rejected, that overtures be made to the South Island Association to include the Marlborough, Nelson, Duller and Westland Societies in the Northern Association. At a meeting convened by the Mayor to consider the best means of perpetuating the memory of her late Majesty Queen Victoria, proposals were submitted for the establishment of a free public library and reading room and the erection of a statue. It was decided by a majority of two to one to erect a statue, and a committee was appointed to carry out the project.
