lu i'lie .Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Messrs J. P. Jones, E. F. .Tones and Francis Kitto, J.l'.’s, two first offenders were convicted of drunkenness. One was fined 5s and the other discharged.

Michael Hogan was fined 10s ami costs for having left a vehicle unattended in Ballanco street, and Edward Thomas Taylor was lined Is and costs for having led a. horse across the footpath in Courtenay place at other than a. properly-constructed crossing place. A like penalty'was inflicted on the .same defendant for not having provided a crossing of wood blocks oil the pathway in front of his business promises. William Wilson was mulcted in a like sum for a similar offence in respect to his premises in. Vivian street. John Henry, Thompson was lined Is for having suffered a drain attached to his house to overflow, and thereby create a nuisance, and Sarah Hall was ordered to pay Is and costs for having kept poultry in an improperlyconstructed poultry-house, whereby a nuisance was caused. These two eases wore laid under the new Health Act. Bridget Smith charged Mary Margaret Griffiths with, having used threatening language, and asked that she ho bound over to keep the peace, Mr Smith appeared on behalf of Bridget Smith and Mr Devine for M.ary Griffiths. The case was dismissed.

Mr James Doyle, on behalf of the Oity Council, appeared before tlie Court in "support of some thirty-seven summonses issued against owners who had failed to pay the tax on their dogs. A few of the cases were withdrawn by the inspector, and in the remainder fines ranging from Is, and costs to 5s and costs (7s) were inflicted.
