HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board was held yesterday, all the members being present except Messrs Fraser, Wilford and Booth, who were granted leave of absence. The hank hooks showed:-—Current account, balance, £2328 13s lid; imprest wages account, credit balance, £850; on fixed deposit, £36,000. Amounts showing the following totals were authorised to be paid:—For interest, .sinking funds, accounts and wages, £10.593 19s 9d ; for progress on contracts, £4099 12s Gd; for salaries for February, £584 18s 4d : total, £15,278 10s 7d. The chairman reported that the secretary had accepted the offer of the “ Nev- Zealand Times ” Company, Limited, to print the" annual accounts and reports, etc., for the sum of £3O 17s Od; that the accounts for 1900 were now being audited, and will probably be completed this week; and that the lease of the bookstall, Queen’s Wharf, expires on 31st March. Messrs Herbert Baillie and Co. seek that the lease of the bookstall may carry with it the exclusive right for runners selling periodicals on the wharves (excepting daily papers). He moved that a fresh_ lease for three years be put up to auction. The report was adopted.

The Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended;—l. That of the fixed deposits of £15,000 falling due on the 28th instant, £12,000 be redeposited for twelve months, and £3OOO, with the accrued interest, be placed to The current account. 2. That the request of .Mrs Merry for permission to wait on the Board be declined, and that she be referred to the Legislation Committee of the Board, as that committee has hitherto dealt with all matters relating to the Grainger street block. 3. That tenders be called, closing on. Thursday, March 21st, for the annual supplies and services for the year commencing April Ist next. 4. That the seal be affixed to a transfer to Mr William A. Dutch of land in the Grainger street block already agreed to be sold to him. 5. That the reduced sum of £lO bo deducted as liquidated damages from the payments to Messrs Soott Bros., Limited, in respect to contract No. 102, hydraulic jiggers, it the goods are delivered by the 28th -inst., aud that after that date the full penalty of £1 per diem be deducted. 6. That the engineer be authorised to obtain three tons of cut and punched hoop steel of American make for trial. 7._ That arrangements be made to • obtain electric lamps for illumination of the Board’s two office buildings to be used if it be decided to illuminate the city on the occasion of the visit of T.B.H. the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. 8. That tenders be called for the construction of two improved dust-carts of the pattern. recently adopted by the City Coun. cil, and that the annual tender for the removal of rubbish be altered to include the horsing of the vehicles to be owned by the Board. 9. That the work of paving with Australian hardwood blocks about 370 square yards of roadway adjacent to the Glasgow Wharf staging he entrusted to 1 the contractors for the wharf, Messrs John McLean and Son, at an estimated cost of £427 4s 9d. 10. That contract plans and specifications be prepared for a wool sfore to be erected at Waterloo quay south in accordance with a sketch laid on the table. 11. That tenders be called for the construction of two sheds on the Glasgow Wharf. "12. That tenders he called for the supply of the hydraulic jiggers required for the proposed sheds on the Glasgow Wharf and for the new woolshed. Clause 7 was struck out,_ it being represented that the Electrical Company could not supply sufficient cower to enable the illuminations referred to to be carried out. The report was then adopted. ■
